End of Term

We concluded Term 3 with a bang. Even though it is school holidays when U3A classes are normally inactive, not so the camera club. Last Saturday we attended the inaugural 'Art In Aviation' event at Heck Airfield, Jacobs Well, where members came face to face and up close with small aircraft and their pilots. For those of you who ventured down there, please send us your 3 best shots for our next slideshow, first meeting in October.

Then on Monday, we visited the Roma Street Parklands to practice our flower and water photography we recently discussed. Again, please send us your 3 best shots for the show.

And finally, we hope you all practiced your special effects photography following Kathy's talk. Again 3 pictures please.

So now, we deserve a break before we start Term 4 on the 14th October at the library, where we'll have three slideshows - 'Special Effects', 'Art In Aviation' and 'Roma Street Parklands. All pictures please before 11th October, to bbohlen@bigpond.com.

The main topic at the meeting will be 'Black and White Photography'

Next Two Meetings

Hi Members,

We have a busy week ahead of us. On Saturday we visit the 'Art In Aviation' meeting at Jacobs Well for an unofficial photoshoot meeting where you'll have an opportunity to win a prize for your photos and sell them to participants at a following Open Day a few weeks later.

We meet at 9.30 am for morning tea, then have access to the planes until 2 pm for our masterpieces. The event takes place at Heck Field, Jacobs Creek Road, Jacobs Creek and is organised by the Gold Coast Sports Flying Club. If anyone needs detailed instructions of how to get there, please contact me.

Here are some of the aircraft we're likely to see:

It is a privilege to be asked to this event, so let's show these people what we can do with our cameras.

Next Official Meeting - Monday 23 September
- 10.00 AM Roma Street Gardens.

Once again the library is closed so we're going on another outing, this time to practice what we've learned about flowers and water photography.

We meet at 10.00 am at the 'Melange Cafe', 1 Parkland Boulevarde, Roma Street Parklands, which is at the entrance of the park. For those who are getting there by train, take the escalator up from Roma Street Railway Station and you're there.

Diane and I will be taking the train from Kuraby Station at 9.20am which gets to Roma Street at 9.58am.

At the following meeting on 14 Oct, we'll have slideshows of members' photos of Kathy's Special Effects lesson, the airshow and of the Roma Street Gardens.

Today's Meeting

Hi Everyone,

In Diane's absence, Kathy presented a lesson on Special Effects Photography. The notes will be on this blog in a few days.

The library had mounted our new TV up high, so everyone could see the presentation photos in true colours. A great improvement.

Once again, we had a full house. attentively listening to Kathy's talk.

After Kathy's talk, she had prepared some practice pieces for us to try our own SFX shots. including some experimental shots in the kitchenette, with the lights out.

Now it's time for members to try some of these shots at home. We're off for two more excursions for the next two meetings as on both Mondays the library will be shut. So we'll defer a slideshow until we meet again in the library.

Next Meeting, Monday 9 September 11.00 AM

Hi Members,

Diane is away in Los Angeles. In her absence, Kathy Roman has kindly agreed to present a lesson on Special Effects Photography. It's amazing what we can do with our cameras.

After Kathy's talk, we'll have a coffee break, then set up to take some of those shots, Kathy is talking about, so please bring your cameras, lenses and tripods and let's have some fun.

SEE YOU THERE....
