Today's Meeting

Hi Members,

A couple of members missed out showing their photos on 'Light.' Jan was too quick off the mark for me so I missed her two photos and Tracy's came after I'd completed the slide show. So, here they are:

The Main topic this morning was Photographing People, researched and presented by Diane. So now to the challenge for the slide show for next meeting on the 9 March:

Send in two photos of people. Try to capture candid shots, showing emotion, engaging the viewer by concentrating on the eyes, or tell a story by putting the person in context.

Send your pix before Saturday night before the next meeting to u3acameraclub@gmail.com

After the main topic members discussed camera settings for flash light and exposure compensation. I hope you all found them. Practice using these settings.

Next Meeting - Monday 23 February - 11.00 AM

Hi Members,

If you haven't done so, please send us your two photos showing two different types of light, as discussed at the last meeting. As always, send them to u3acameraclub@gmail.com

Our main topic on Monday, once again researched and presented by Diane is on Portrait Photography.

Diane says, when I hear the term Portrait Photography it conjures up the image of a head and shoulders, however Portrait Photography is more than that. It can be of the whole person set in their environment to make the photo tell a story, which is what we should be aiming for in most of our photos. On the other hand, it can be a photo of parts of the body, like hands or you can fill the whole frame with the face or part of it. So, we'll talk about photographing people, rather than Portrait Photography.

Don't forget to bring your cameras and manuals, because after the main presentation, we'll look at different types of Flash Settings on our cameras.

If you have ordered a name badge, they have arrived, so please bring along $8 to give to Kathy.

SEE YOU MONDAY

(DON'T FORGET TO CHECK THE CLUB PROGRAM FROM TIME TO TIME)

Today's Meeting

Hi Members,

We started off with great success this morning, welcoming 39 members, including five new members who came along for the first time. We now have 49 members after it was discovered a couple didn't get rolled over from last year. So we can definitely not accept any new members in this term. We have a waiting list with another 12 people eager to join us. Maybe we should see if we can get the Entertainment Centre to hold our meetings, ha ha.

Diane presented the main topic to a packed meeting this morning.

Our main topic this morning, researched and presented by Diane was entitled 'NATURAL LIGHT'

Then members worked out how to set the White Balance on their cameras. Getting to know our cameras better is a new segment we will adopt from now on.

So here is the challenge for the next two weeks:

Send in two photos showing your knowledge of using Natural Light as a tool in visual communication.

Try some of these:

  • two shots using different directions of the light source
OR

  • two shots showing 2 different types of light:
- Golden light
- Twilight
- Harsh light
- Foggy light

Try to capture moods & athmosphere and tell a story.

For the benefit of new members, please email these photos to u3acameraclub@gmail.com before Saturday 21 February, midnight.

Next meeting is on Monday 23 February. Topic Portrait Photography.
